No, no, no.

Much better to start with jazz you do like, and work up from there. Don't forget that not all jazz is good, as with any other type of music.

I'd say that 5% of all music distinguishes itself by being excellent, 5% by being absolute dreck, and the other 90% is pretty much OK by varying degrees, but indistinguishable from the rest of the 90%. That applies across al genres.

That's why when people ask me what my favorite kind of music is, I say "Excellent music."

It's also why when I was listening to my iPod while driving the other day (through the car stereo), and allowing it to just go alphabetically through its contents, I heard both Captain Beefheart and Cecilia Bartoli, among many other things.
