1980 "bomb," HEAVEN'S GATE,

They filmed some of the street scenes for that movie in Wallace, Idaho. They wanted to capture the railroad station, which is a very cool Victorian style building. They hauled in dirt to cover the streets and built facades over all the modern buildings.

It would have been much cheaper to build a whole new set in Hollywood, I'm sure. The Train Station is a historic building, but you can see it from the freeway driving through Wallace.

There's a street intersection in Wallace that claims to be the center of the Universe.

When I was in college, a common fraternity stunt was for the Actives to haul a poor pledge over to Wallace and dump him blindfolded in the foyer of one of the famous bordellos in Wallace.

Now there is a bordello museum in one of the former bordellos, the Oasis. I've seen it, and it's the most depressing environment I can imagine. A half dozen small rooms, single bed, no window, small table and lamp. One toilet room served all of them.
