Actually, my only point was that a SOUND monetary policy and a SOUND ECONOMY are required for 'great nation' or 'great empire' status. and that it is certainly possible [history is littered with clear examples] for nations to, mostly likely out of a combination of foolishness and hubris, over-extend, not tend to their knitting, engage in cost-ineffective actions, and suffer collapse.)
