he's just a kid, obviously. THe reason women buy expensive handbags is for quality, but also because if its a status bag it can go with any type of clothing. Even if its a blue bag (Gucci makes blue ones, still I think) you can wear it with any clothes. Before designer bags came in, women used to buy a different shoes/handbag for every outfit. Just the hassle of buying a purse and moving your junk around is worth the money. And besides not too many of them are $1K actually. Many are less. Some are more though like Chanel.

Women's handbags or purses have been totems of status for years, across many cultures. Chanel or Hermes, both French, would be the ultimate for most cultures: Japan, US, China...women like beautiful things and will pay for them, according to their means. I have a Kelly (Hermes) bought many years ago for about 1k, still looks great. It would cost 5 figures to replace these days. MP
