I agree. That's why I think we have to change the language of politics. I don't want to elect 'leaders', I want to hire employees.

Electing leaders smacks of monarchy. It smacks of putting responsibility for good governance into the hands of the professional lobbyist and politico. We're all each of us individually responsible for good governance.

We all need to keep an eye on our employees and make sure they do our bidding, aren't corrupt, aren't stealing or sleeping on the job. When they do poorly IN THEIR JOB (as opposed to in their private lives), we fire them and find a new employee.

When we see Senators and Congressmen and Mayors and Police Chiefs and Meter Readers as our employees, we're apt to make sure they don't get into mischief. If we see anyone as our 'leaders' we're apt to think they know more than we do and we kowtow to them.

Then we head down the road (yet again) to dictatorship or fascism.

People are too starry-eyed for their own good. I think we should all be much more cynical and demanding.
