"How are we preventing them from killing each other?" What do you call standing in the middle of a Sunni/Shia civil war in Iraq... with the stated goal of trying to prevent partisan attacks (by either group upon the other), alternately targeting Sunni 'insurgents' then Shiite 'militias'? What do you call interposing our military forces between the rival powers of Saudi Arabia and it's fellow Gulf Monarchy Sunni governments... and Iran? Think EITHER side is prepared to attack conventionally across our forces to get at each other? (That perhaps explains a lot about the unconventional nature of the asymmetrical warfare that been going on thus far.) I CALL THAT 'pulling defeat out of the mouth of victory', and 'shooting ourselves in the foot' bankrupting ourselves in a ridiculously mis-guided, and failing, con-job called a 'nation-building' exercise.... Acting in our own worst interests, actually trying (albeit: futilely) to prevent events from happening that are HUGELY in our OWN BEST INTERESTS.
