It does need to change. I hope it does change.

The US will have to really want the UN to be stronger, if it is to get stronger. At the moment there is a lot of paranoia in the US about being part of the global community. Whether the US will ever really want the UN to be a meaningful force that can bind and govern all countries (including the US), is an open question.

But what is the purpose of groups such as the United Nations if they cannot stop atrocies like Rwanda or use their influence (and pressure) to put an end to things such as female mutilation?


It's a place for various governments of the various nations on the planet to have discussions. It is for talk. It's not about action.
