Along with the global discomforts, I see some tremendous potential for benefits. Here in North America we have estimates of nearly 10 million muslims, many are recent immigrants with strong ties to their cultural homelands. They are in some cases struggling to assimilate and in other cases are thriving while enjoying life styles and opportunities not available in other parts of the world. The cultural influences here are filtering, blending, and meshing in positive ways with the folk back home and vise versa. That, I believe, is having a much greater impact than isolating cultures and waiting for change. Of course not everybody sees it that way, Btheb death culters for example. In the mean time some of that coalescing is taking place.
