Radical Sunni group claims bomb responsibility in Iran (1st Lead) By DPA From Monsters and Critics.com Middle East News Feb 16, 2007, 22:15 GMT news.monstersandcritics.com Tehran - The radical Sunni group Jundallah (Allah's Brigade) has taken responsibility for Friday night's bombing in Zahedan in south-east Iran, Fars news agency reported. In remarks to the television network of the Iranian opposition group People's Mujaheddin (MKO), Jundallah leader Abdulmalek Rigi said his group was responsible for the latest bombing, Fars reported. The bomb exploded at 2200 local time (1830 GMT) Friday night in the girls' school Mowaref Islami in Zahedan, little more than two days after another bomb in the region killed at least 11 people. No details are known about possible casualties but Fars said that Iranian police forces have surrounded the suspected culprits and the two sides were engaged in an exchange of fire. According to Fars, all streets leading to the school and nearby residential complex of Guatam were filled with police, and one of the group's hiding places was believed to be near the venue of the incident. On Wednesday, 11 people were killed and more than 30 injured after a bomb planted in a car went off in Zahedan and hit a bus belonging to the paramilitary revolutionary guards (IRGC). The victims mainly belonged to the administrative staff of the IRGC. The Iranian police had earlier Friday claimed to have arrested 65 Jundullah members suspected of being behind Wednesday's bombing. Tehran once again accused the United States and British intelligence services to be linked to the group. Zahedan, located in the Sistan-Beluchistan province bordering Afghanistan and Pakistan, is mainly a centre for drug-trafficking. A large number of IRGC anti-narcotic forces are stationed in the Sistan-Beluchistan province and frequently clash with not only local but also Afghan and Pakistani drug traffickers who try to smuggle the drugs via Iran to European markets.
