Nikon does well?
I don't think so.

"Nikon aims to capture more than 50 percent share in 193-nm immersion lithography in 2008."

Q406 was the third consecutive quarter in which ASML sold more lithotools than Nikon.
Nikon last week lowered the expectations for their last fiscal quarter 06/07 from 170 to 165 tools.

The problem between the two is that Nikon reports as fiscal year and ASML reports as calender year, so Q406 for ASML is the same as Q306/07 for Nikon.
That asks for some calculations because I've read some articles in which the writers consider the two different periodes as one and the same.

Nikon sold 35 new lithotools and 4 refurbished tools in Q306/07, which is Q406 for ASML,

In the same period ASML sold 64 new lithotools and 8 refurbished tools.

In calender year, so not fiscal year, 2006 Nikon sold 145 new lithotools and 20 refurbished tools, ASML sold 220 new tools and 46 refurbished tools.

Marketshare of ASML in 2006 was 61%, compared to 57% in 2005.

Nikon said it expects sales of about 180 chip-producing machines in the year ending March 2008, so in the twelve month period from April 2007 until March 2008.

In calender year 2007 ASML expects to sell >220 new lithotools of which appr. 60 are immersiontools of the newest generation, Twinscan XT:1900i, ie with NA 1.35 and for 45-nm massproduction.

ASML expects a marketshare of about 66% in 2007, with revenues of about € 4.3 billion, and targets 70% at the end of 2008 with revenues of appr. $ 5 billion.

So this 50 percent share in 193-nm immersion lithography in fiscal 2008 from Nikon means they are selling an equal amout as ASML does in calender 07, ie 60 tools?
I don’t believe one single word from wichever Nikon manager, as I did the same in the past. They speak nice fairy-tales, but fairy-tales makes no chips....

In january 2006 Nikon delivered their first immersiontool to Toshiba. I’ve never heard any news this (demo)tool is working properly.
In the last three months of 2006 Nikon sold 2 immersiontools, which makes a total of three immersiontools.

ASML up till now has more than 25 immersiontools in the field, XT:1400i and XT:1700i, of which many are mass producing wafers.

To me there is no question who will be the marketleader for the next couple of years, immersion or dry, whatever.
