Some traditions, customs and values are good. Like a work ethic, respect for education, etc.

Some are bad - like honor killings, jihad, polygamy, disrespect for women, intolerance, religious imperialism. Those need to be left behind.

In 2001, just before 911 Salman Rushdie visited Houston to give a lecture somewhere here. An Islamic school on Hillcroft organized teenage protestors to coincide with his visit. Protest is fine. A right. But these protestors shouted Death to Rushdie. Death chants aren't fine. I recall this because I remember thinking right after 911 that that school may well be training the terrorists of tomorrow.

Let me make it clear - that kind of tradition and custom is NOT WANTED HERE!
