Ras Al Khaimah: The seventh RAK Holy Quran Award competition starts today in a huge tent set up next to the Cultural Centre.

"Standards, activities, and rewards of this year's version of the contest have been tremendously improved," said Shaikh Omar bin Abdul Aziz Al Qasimi, the contest's Undersecretary.

The contest, from February 16 to 22, is held under the patronage of His Highness Shaikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Addressing a press conference at the RAK Department of the Holy Quran and its Sciences, Shaikh Omar said this year's contest will include far fewer Islamic lectures than last year. "The focus will be on the Quran memorising sessions," he said. "Six lectures only by renowned Islamic scholars from the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Morocco will be delivered all through the contest," said Shaikh Omar, who also heads the emirate's Islamic Affairs and Awqaf Department.

"Only one female lecturer will deliver lectures to the women," he said. The lectures will be organised at the Cultural Centre.

(???? Huh?)

"The huge tent dedicated to the memorisation sessions can accommodate 1,000 people.

"A huge area outside the tent has also been earmarked and provided with the necessary facilities to accommodate more audience," he said.

most of the more crazy concepts have been emanating from the right. How do you explain that one away?

Sweeping and unsupported generalizations of that nature make you sound even more ignorant than usual.
