It is worth looking into but not worth the extreme paranoia of a reaction like yours. I live very close to Columbine High School, so I've been drenched in the coverage of that event for years, and it just occurred to me that I don't know the backgrounds of Harris and Kleabold (The shooters), nor would it mean anything to me if I did. There have been other teen rampages since, that got short lived media coverage, and no interest was paid to their cultural heritage. This one will probably get more milage. When Oklahoma City was bombed there was a huge outcry and we had bomb threats at all the local Mosques (You must've been on the phone night and day). When it was learned that the bomber was a non-Muslim, nothing (rightfully) was attributed to his heritage.
