Whatever the underlying issues were for this murdering kid, we should try to get to the bottom of them. I don't see the benefit of going off the deep end with regards to Islam. It's not really an issue for me whether this kid was in Utah or in my own town, or whether it was the biggest thing in Utah's history or not. As a matter of record, however, Ted Bundy lived in Utah where he attended law school in Salt Lake City, and where he began/resumed killing quite a few starting sometime in 1975.
