Dear Tench:

Sorry but that doesn't work in those cases either.

one employee gets paid more for the same kind of work than another.

In the exact same situation and skill set? In most government, union and such type jobs, that is not true. They pay the same for the same work. They get quickly sued, if they discriminate.

One traveler on a flight pays less than another traveler on the same flight.

Not the same situation. Each ticket is purchased by a different sales agent and then resold to the customer at different markups. The airline is required to give them and direct to the customer the same rate for each ticket with the same terms. Lastly, airlines do get sued if one sales agent gets different terms than another. Most differences are time and sales agent related. This also applies to sporting events and performances.

One buyer of a car pays less than another buyer of the same car at the same dealership by the same dealer.

See above. The differences usually accrue to the sales agent, not the dealer per se. However buying straight from the car maker, you get the same price and, of course, experience helps get you the most discounts. Plenty of sites supply you with ammunition either free or nearly free. This also applies to houses which are almost always custom (stick) built.

And one customer of a supplier pays less for X amount of product than another customer of the same supplier for the same amount of the same product.

Sorry, this is illegal. Companies have been nailed for this and the perpetrators thrown in jail. Here is a good overview of the ROBINSON-PATMAN ACT:
calbar.ca.gov

Read it and weep!

That's life. That's the free market. And no amount of patronizing on your part is going to change that reality.

That's the law! And no amount of dodging is going to change that reality!
