Katelew, I don't know why everyone let's them get away with it. They offer the same false assumption with respect to Vietnam that they offer with respect to Iraq, i.e., that we COULD HAVE WON. Why don't the Democrats simply ask if they really wanted another 40 years, and counting, of war in Vietnam and the hundreds of thousand more dead Americans that would have cost us? Then why don't they ask them to explain exactly what it cost us to "lose" in Vietnam as opposed to what it was costing us to try to "win" in Vietnam? (I'd like to see those "millions of dead" numbers of Cambodians laid at the feet of our leaving Vietnam when I KNOW that we didn't give a shit about Cambodia when we were in Vietnam.) This fear of hitting the wrong political nerves is a fatal weakness of the Democrats. We never really had the final debate on Vietnam, we just ducked our heads and ignored it after we left. Someone should have hit it head on and the hell with all the screamers who'd have gotten incensed. At least Chuck Hagel and a few others are willing to do that now. I hope they get the chance and that the media catches on and reports it thoroughly. We'll see. Ed
