Interestingly, although I never thought about in percentage terms, I do tend to put a maximum of about 2% of my PF into any stock. I do have a habit of hanging on for drops of more than 25% though. I held onto most of what I owned last May, although many fell by 30%. If I'd sold when they were 25% down, I might well have bought them again at roughly the same price on the way up, in which case it wouldn't have made much difference. I'm sure I could do better if I paid closer attention, but the time zone issue and having a job limits that.

RE speculation: I agree with much of what you say, but do not like formulas, except perhaps for amount of diversity. I think a knowledgable person should move money according to peceived valuation and whatever is going on at the moment.

I usually sell and change stocks when I ask this question. Which stock do I think will double first?

I sold LBE for FNI and got 5 for 1. LBE is doing great now, but I have still made much more by switching.

Well said, but the richest hedge all their bets, and bet big and long on the few that are well figured. Like kingfisher, which will be the next Cominco. Someday.

Baruch said ten stocks is all you can track effectively and he had a good mind. Today with computers you can track the whole market and if pro, you can keep on top of 30 stocks. IF you want to define management perfectly however, it will take 6 months of research and then you are back to 20 bottom feeders, but max portfolio is perhaps 10.

50-50? Depends on what you know. Odds for one cannot be calculated on industry averages. Surely we are luckier than all the rest! Smarter, well blush, awe shucks, we at least can talke to all them smart folks!

We are starting with 3 mines. Now what are our odds? Even?>
