Nothing changed in 5 weeks, not the mission or the circumstances, if they didn't want to accept General Petraeus, or his vision, or his method the time to do it was 5 weeks ago. Now they have asked General Petraeus to do a job, he has agreed and gone to his command, and they have said to Him and to the Country, we are not going to fund that fool. The joke is on him. I do not recall Mr Murtha voting against General Petraeus, could you point me to some evidence of that? I don't recall Hillary Clinton voting Against General Petraeus, is there any evidence of that? How about Nancy Pelosi, I know she wants a huge military transport to use for herself and her family and friends, but could you point out evidence that she felt that General Petraeus and his plan were flawed? If you cannot, then the vote by 17 republicans and all the Democrats but two was an act of betrayal, because by voting for him, and his plan for the surge, they accept the plan. To vote against the surge 5 weeks after voting for it means that 5 weeks ago they made the decision. Thus any American Soldier knows that the Democrats will back them as long as it is politically expedient. As soon as it looks like a vote the other way will get better publicity, they will vote to stop supporting them, cut their funds, and hope for the best. It doesn't even have to be an election issue, just popularity in the polls, and the Democrats will drop the American Armed Forces like a hot potato. This vote according to the Democrats is the first step in ending the Surge and the war in Iraq. If they wanted to stop the surge, the time was 5 weeks ago.
