re: How about if the Dems impose a "pay for Iraq" tax with the President's latest request for Iraq funding. Say, put a 5% surcharge on incomes of over $1 mil, the people that benefit MOST from Bush. They've said they're going to go to a "paygo" system, and the Iraq war hasn't been paid for from day one..

How could Bush NOT sign it? It would just be PAYING for his dumbass war!

Good point. But frankly I think Murthas bill will get through the house, and maybe the Senate. Essentially he is saying only one year in Iraq, the soldiers must be fully equipped and fully trained. It's a "support our soldiers" bill. It does, however, make the "mission" (whatever that is) next to impossible.

So the Republicans have a choice, support the troops with fair deployments, adequate training and equipment, or vote against supporting the troops (and the funds). Bush has the same option with his veto... a vote for the troops or HE cuts off funds.

Will be interesting to see the Republican spin...

Vote Yes and you kill the escalation and force a wind down of troops; vote No and you vote against the troops (as framed by Republican rhetoric) and cut off their funds.

I saw Hagel on Meet The Press and he said he liked the bill.

Nope, you've got to rally the entire country behind the war effort. A flat per person tax. 300 million people in the US, and what do they want this time, $90 billion? That's $300 per person.

Sure, I'll pay my share. In fact this is not a bad idea. If we're supposed to be at war, make the population pay as we go. But forget your millionaires only tax, it should be a united effort by all Americans equally.
