aleph0,

Probably now too late...
.. as Intel is shouting "World's Best Processor" on TV everywhere !
.. while they still have the lead in comic
benchmarks!

Maybe not too late. AMD did convince the market that Mhz alone
was not what people should be buying. They need to convince
the market that comic benchmarks are not what it should be
buying, but something else (that makes its chips shine). They
need their chip to be different (if not better) and market
that difference. I think AMD is going that route with energy
efficiency or total cost of ownership. AMD's platform
strategy is along that line too. This is why I think Barcelona
will be a good balanced chip, but not necessarily a better
performer than Intel's quad server chip in terms of raw speed.
But that's ok if AMD's marketing department is clever and
convince buyers that they need to pay a premium for its cpu
based on whatever characteristic makes its chip shine.

re: Why the hell should AMD be selling their CPUs at ca. 30% lower than Intel's ?

Well, they can do that as long as they want <20% of the market, but most people hear want AMD to flood the market at low prices to get 50% market share. Others have asked, "at what cost?"
