"I said then and I say now, that while Israel considered Iraq a threat, Iran was and certainly now is, a much bigger threat, and if they could have ordered a US war, it would have been with Iran."

Yes, but Iran hadn't "tried to kill" the chimp Nero's Poppy! For whatever reason, the neocons and the other war boosters chose Iraq, a really WEAK country, and AIPAC and Israel did EVERYTHING POSSIBLE to get US armed forces quagmired in the neighborhood.

It makes Israel feel SAFER having the US stuck there.

Needless to say, your interpretation is the only one that makes sense. Cheney the victim, that's rich.

For those willing to consider "nonsense", the reality-based community view would be that it was just another smear campaign. The thing is, at the time that Cheney the victim undertook this operation, W had already gotten his war, and the "Bush doctrine" was well on the way to busting apart due to the W's administration's own overweening hubris and incompetence. The reality based community has never been much of a match for W's multitudinous faith based initiatives, though. That's life.

As for Israel, Iraq, and Iran, my question still stands. If Israel always wanted an Iran war, why are there so many thousands of posts here from you flacking for W's war in Iraq? Were you somehow out of touch with Israel's true desires when it might have made any difference? You want a war with Iran, now's a bit late.

"as nobody could find any possible national security harm involved in the supposed outing of a supposedly covert agent."

Not supposed. Plame was identified by the CIA as a NOC.

She was working on preventing the proliferation of WMDs. What happened to her contacts or her work is also secret so you wouldn't know anything about that.

I thought the entire purpose of the Neocon-Israel agenda was to toppled Iraq and use its oil and its 'friendly and grateful' populace to project US power permanently into the region. Turkey wasn't going to let anyone use its bases for a full scale regional takeover, Afghanistan is the wild and woolly west, Saudi Arabia made Bush remove troops...where was there going to be a base to project power if not in Iraq?

On paper, it makes sense at least to Neocons. I think it started off as a weekend game of Risk at Kristol's house and it got leaked out by accident and landed in Cheney's lap. After that all hell broke loose.
