It's a very anomalous situation, where Party A is loudly declared to be a thief, but nobody on earth can identify Party B, the legal owner. How do you steal unclaimed property?

The property belongs to the respective countries pre-1967 borders. That would be the only legal basis. If those countries wish to give up their rights to establish a Palestinian state, it's their property and they have a right to do so.

The anomalous situation is that the US will not allow the occupied territories to be returned or given to anyone unless Israel gives a thumbs up. The US won't even allow the UN to criticize Israel for killing UN personnel.

Again, it doesn't make any difference as long are parties are going to play games with the article "the" [or any of the other silliness you bring up] it's not going to end in any amicable way. You have convinced me beyond a reasonable doubt that Israel will make sure, with the assistance of the US, of the annihilation of the entire mid-east. 10% of the World wide Muslim population will be gone and 50% of the Jewish population will be gone. IOW, the Muslim world can afford to lose more than the Diaspora can.
