I disagree. History written by objective uninvolved historians is more likely to be 'accurate" than the actual participants in the events. Also, having 50 years of time pass gives some historical perspective that may be difficult to envision in real time. So if the history is of the ME from 1945-1975, anyone might write a fine book today and not have lived in the ME from 1945 to 1975.

MK Gandhi did not write anything about the US or S Africa (tho he lived there for a while).

Martin Luther King Jr did not write anything about a country he did not live in.

so I just dont buy the concept that a person can write about some place he/she has never lived in and experienced 1st hand.
