You could be right. I still think Saddam just never really took in the seriousness of his situation. I want you to remember how deeply fantastical thinking can run- remember, we see it on SI even in the posts of people who are not under stress. I think a departure from reality as other people may experience it/see it can be even more exaggerated in people under extreme stress. I think that would be magnified when the "facts" are cross cultural.
