The continents of North America, South America, and if Central America is a continent or a subcontinent, whatever, Central America, all named after Amerigo Vespucci.

He was a little bit more than a mapmaker, he actually explored South America a little and was the first to suggest it was not Asia but a new continent.

Not much but it's something.

BTW, have you read "1421, the Year the Chinese Discovered America"? I haven't, will get it from the library tomorrow but it looks interesting.

Since when has the name of a country meant diddly? We're named after an Italian mapmaker. Does this inextricably link us to Italy?

And then there's Turkey!
