Officials: Iranian patrol boats probe Iraqi waters

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Iranian patrol boats have increased attempts in the last week to assess defenses near Iraqi offshore oil terminals, U.S. military officials said Monday.

The Iranian actions at the northern end of the Persian Gulf have been a subject of operational briefings for U.S. military personnel in recent days, the officials said.

The officials -- who said they were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter -- said that the United States does not see the Iranian moves as aggressive or provocative. The assessment is that the probes are part of an Iranian effort to raise its military presence in the gulf.

Officials said that for several months they have seen Iranian flagged vessels attempt to approach oil terminals in the area, but activity rose last week.

"So what's the solution to the Middle East mayhem? Well, frankly, I don't think there is a man-made solution to the violence. But, if there is one, it needs to begin with truth."

I agree with the above to the depths of my heart. I also see some historical bias in the author's description (obviously Arab and anti-Muslim). We could find and post articles from various sources that establish ancient claims to the land that have been violated by one or another group back and forth throughout history and we would end up right back here. With me agreeing to the statement above and you probably proclaiming that means death to Islam or some equally ludicrous comment.

Middle East Mayhem is in part founded upon the same thing all conflicts over territory are founded upon: The desire for greater influence and control over greater real estate. In addition it is founded on fundamental world views over a future direction. All three dominant religions of the region see this spot as the catalyst for change and the focal point of world domination. All three recognize Soloman's reign and rights. All three, expect the appearance of a Messiah at this junction of Earth who will direct the rest of us in faith and practice. Muslims and Christians say that will be Jesus, Israelies say it will be another. None of the three have the divine patience to wait until that Messiah does his job. So our egos will determine the course to take.

Personally, when I look at a satellyte view of the region I see nothing of value given some of the other garden paradise locations of Earth that are being relatively over looked.

But y'all love fighting over dumb stuff so I say go ahead. Just don't expect me to give a hoot.
