I was warned not used "racist slurs" after I'd called another poster a "cracker" by the SI management! en.wikipedia.org I wasn't aware there WAS a race of "crackers", but several crackers seem to post on SI, and apparently were offended!

In the case of your in law, would "white trash" or "trailer trash" be more acceptable? Probably. See I know she's prejudice against minorities. That whole side of the family is. My cousin is convinced some 'black buck' will attack his horse farm and rape is wife and daughter. He doesn't say that seriously....he jokes about it as an explanation for all the guns he has......but I know on some level he believes it. In the past few years, they have been more careful but she slipped up because she was upset. They, like shortie and steve, think all liberals or even moderate liberals are idiots. They make an exception for me because I'm family and I have good business skills so I can't be all bad. To be honest, I am very tired of it all. All my 'liberal beliefs' are not something I got out of books but rather things I have seen implemented or implemented myself, and they worked. In college, I taught swimming in inner city schools because I needed the money. One of the other instructors told me not to bother teaching the inner city kids how to swim because they will never get it......they don't really care whether they can swim or not. Just give them a free swim and let them play around. Well in fact, the kids were eager to learn how to swim and rarely missed a class. Funny story......when I taught swimming, I dressed like a typical college kid and invariably my blue jeans were torn and had holes. Well one class of kids felt sorry for me and collected enough money to buy me a new pair of jeans. Here they were......the poorest of the poor and they took pity on me who at the time was poor but in a few years would be earning a six figured salary. That day I experienced one of the strangest mixture of emotions that I have ever experienced. I didn't know whether to cry or to laugh.
