"There was a time, many years ago, when people could look to the newspapers for the truth which was before television, and even in some cases, before the radio broadcasts. In those days, the media printed, or told, and reported accurate information."

In those days there was competition in the media. Most cities of any size had two daily newspaper deliveries from competing companies. Consolidation reduced the number of voices until it reached the breaking point. Rush Limbaugh recognised the breaking point and has profited handsomely for his foresight.

"the media decided they could twist the news and influence their audience, and many of the people thought they were still reporting instead of manufacturing the news. "

The media have learned well from advertisers. People are given multimedia presentations to influence them instead of given facts to educate them. Plato described the current liberal media environment in which the "guardians" pantomime what they will allow the masses to experience with cutout figures in front of fires on the far walls of the cave from behind the masses. Thus they see the reflection of cutouts.

I have no more respect for those who indulge themselves entirely on conservative media. Though I must add, they will get a more balanced perspective of the news.
