The word "legitimate" means according to the law, or according to established principles- the reasons you are giving for war are simply not "legitimate" as the word is ordinarily used.

Oh, we're back to your argument over the legality of war. I don't see much value in that discussion, so I'll pass. I probably would be an advocate of war in certain situations where it would happen to violate various treaties and UN charters and things, so I'll agree with you that I'm sometimes in favor of "illegal" wars.

And if you know things can get worse, then making the decision we did about Iraq is pretty foolish unless one thinks the odds are on a positive outcome.

Of course. And I'm sure all the people who voted for an invasion of Iraq, which is the majority of our elected politicians at the time, thought the odds were for a positive outcome.
