Don't be silly Mike. I know how the convention works. I am questioning the logic of this convention. As you have defined it, I should be able to say that an American who has been here for generations and has never set foot in Italy is still Italian because somewhere in his ancestry there was an Italian immigrant...this even though, for the sake of argument, he family tree is Cherokee for generations.
