The Governor’s dirty secret.

The Governor of the State of Michigan is asking for more money, again.
Some of the items that she has brought up that need more funding are:

Jails and prisons. Law enforcement. Staff and facilities for courts.
Legal staff such as prosecuting attorneys offices and personnel.

What she hasn't said:

"We need more money to enforce drug laws. Drug laws haven’t worked for the last forty years, but if you just give us more money I think that they might start working."

About half of all of the above budgets are spent trying to enforce drug laws. Hundreds of millions of dollars are being wasted trying to change the things that people like to consume.

Governor Granholm knows our drug laws aren’t working. In a vain attempt to make them work, she wants to waste even more tax payer money.

Forty years have proven that drug laws don't work. Just like prohibition didn’t work during the early twentieth century.

It hasn't worked before and it never will. Why should we spend more money for laws we KNOW do not work?

Drug laws not only fail to keep people from taking drugs, they make our streets less safe.

Want every single meth lab in the state to go away?
Make meth legal. Why screw up the kitchen if you can buy meth for less money that it takes to make it? Drug laws keep meth labs running.
Want gang drug wars to stop?
Make drugs legal. There's no more turf wars because there is no profit in those wars. Drug laws keep drug turf wars going.

Do you feel safe now? Or were we safer in the early sixties before this “war on drugs” got started?

Remember Al Capone? We made alcohol legal and all of the booze gangs went away. It worked then and it would work now.
