You are right, you move it you lose it to some degree.

You just listed the main reasons we stayed put and live below our means. Even if you can afford the house there are all sorts of added costs in moving up to a larger home and sometimes a new home opens up whole vistas of additional wants and desires you couldn't even imagine.

Then sometimes you end up like my sister, realizing you only live in two of your twelve rooms but feel compelled to furnish them all equally well. I don't even want to look at her heating bills. She wouldn't be happy living the way I do, but I sure as hell wouldn't be happy in her life either. I hate owning and maintaining anything I don't use.
