I'm not justifying our crime rate, I'm justifying allowing private ownership of guns, which is useful (among other reasons) because of our him crime rate.

As for isolated incidents - Well mass murders are indeed isolated incidents, but they are used by the gun control crowd to try to support their arguments, despite the fact that privately owned guns are useful in dealing with these incidents. The 1966 University of Texas clock tower shooting helped lead to quite a bit of gun control, despite the fact that private guns that helped lower the death total.
