That is a very scholarly and accurate article worthy of consideration and discusion. I can't disagree with any of the authors discription but I found some of it a little too Westernized like.

"On American campuses, Muslim student groups now shun one another on a confessional basis."

These groups do shun each other and that is nothing new, although it may be getting more extreme than in the past. There are some effective activities that get them mixing and they remain non-violent but they don't accept one another's fellowship, with some exceptions. There is no such thing as confession in Islam so did he mean that they shun each other in religious observances, worship, or Islamic studies?

The following comment is provocative and deserves our attention.

"We are supposed to watch what we say about Islam, lest by any chance we be considered "offensive."

There is a difference between making provocative comments to Muslim for no other purpose than to insult them, and seeking understanding in areas that are controversial or highly sensitive. The author seems like a decent person, so I doubt that he meant decent people should go about casting offensive insults just to show they don't like Muslims. Some of the people here may disagree. Bring it on...
