I can understand your frustration -- however, please consider the total ramifications of your statement, "Extremism in the face of moderacy (sic) can drive what was moderate to extremes."

Everyone considers themselves to be rational moderates -- that probably encompasses ben Laden himself -- Osama may envision himself simply as a moderate defender of islam -- who knows?

Westerners do not consider themselves as extremists and radicals either -- we are all moderates in our own eyes -- Jews, Christians, and the rest of non-muslim civilization do not see evidence that they are destructive radicals Hell bent on converting humanity or destroying it. I would argue that islam provides non-islamic groups non-stop evidence of overtly expressed hatred of non-islamic individuals. Commonly these individuals are non-political, non-combatants and include women and children -- they simply tried to live but could not.

In increasing numbers the non-islamic world see the glorification of teenaged twits, whose whole purpose in life is to blow themselves up, become martyrs, and reap the benefits of 72 virgins. If you believe this motivational wet-dream, please step back and consider how it might appear to rational, non-muslim onlookers.

In recent times, can anyone think of a holy Bible, holy sacrament, or holy book, outside of islam that unequivocally directs, in quotable form, that their followers engage in anti-infidel behaviors of various sorts -- that is routinely referenced by deranged clerics?

Next consider that in the 21st. century we no longer have the luxury time afforded previous generations. Not all individuals with rigid beliefs can even carry on a conversation on the SI site without going ballistic. We certainly don’t need the same folks armed with WMDs or anything else for that matter.

Don't you feel non-islamic moderates fall within the within the context of, "Extremism in the face of moderacy (sic) can drive what was moderate to extremes"? My concluding question to you is this, are you certain that western moderates will not renounce their moderate ED-like behavior and very quickly adopt a really aggressive, non-self-actualized self-defense agenda? Such perceptual changes usually occur instantaneously; and once in place are seemingly irreversible. Does islam really care?
