We were attacked by the Japanese.

Why do right wingers keep trying to compare WWII with Bush's desire to experiment with a pre-emptive war!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"In 1943 US gov't spending was 243% of received revenues."

We were in a WORLD WAR in 1943 against an array of other nation-states! Do you think the "war on terror" compares?

If it does, why hasn't Bush nationalized our industries, rationed tires, automobiles, gasoline, nylon and started drafting people for the struggle? We had a top tax rate of 91% in WW II to pay for the war, and for many years AFTER the war. If Bush REALLY BELIEVES the WOT is THAT GRAVE a struggle, WHY isn't he asking Americans to step up?

He's urged us to "go shopping"!
