Joe Wilson lived in Niger for two years as a diplomat. I'm sure he knew who to contact there to find out who kept track of the yellowcake, as it's their primary export. The CIA thought he had the right qualifications - and they were tasked with the job by Cheney.

Yeah, this is something that seldom gets discussed in this whole Plame affair. If Iraq had actually tried to buy yellowcake from Niger, how was Joe supposed to find out about it during his investigative visit?

Hi, I'm Joe. Have you seen any Iraqis trying to buy yellowcake in the past year or so? C'mon, tell me the truth...

Just one of those points that are obvious to anyone who knows anything about WMD proliferation, but which the MSM has conveniently chosen not to mention.

If Joe Wilson had found nothing, as he claimed in the NYT, it would have proved exactly nothing.
