Do you agree with the following. From what i read in the NYTimes today, Iran is backing away from its hard line stance on nukes and thinking about the russian plan again. Also there are plenty of ships out there on both sides and we can have a Gulf of Tonkin scenario in the making. Also top iranians with the support of the Ayotalla are calling the holocaust a fact and in some many words calling the PM a jerk for being a denier. OTOH, the arab states are arming in what they call self defense against a coming iranian threat to the region. So if iran goes with the russian plan and eschews nukes, accepts the holocaust as fact leading to some type of deal on terrorism and israeli recognition who does the US end up siding with? Iran has a fledgling democracy of sorts within an islamic framework. Like with china with an infusion of capital and entrepreneurship, an islamic democracy may someday flourish. It will be somewhat western and somewhat islamic and pro-progress. The so-called moderate arab states otoh are doomed to failure imo. Knee jerk support of the arab side sans reforms and sans guarantees of fighting terrorism and curbing wahabism makes no sense. So perhaps it goes that way and US/Iran relations improve and iran becomes a middle east version of china. Or maybe a war breaks out by accident and this kills any chance of the above. This FP stuff is hard.
