I saw Emil Griffith kill Benny Kid Paret on TV. It turns out that my father in law was best friends with Griffiths Manager. Griffith never got over that win--always viewed as the killer and when he came out of the closet, he became the fag killer of Benny Kid Paret. Boxing played a role in my life. I still watch fights today and marvel at the pure heroism and athleticism of the good fighters. And then there are the joe palookas who end up punch drunk. And then there was Mohammed Ali.
