I think that is one way to look at it.

I hardly blame the followers of Christianity for the medieval mindset of the Catholic Church during the Middle Ages. All problems in religion and politics are a function of leadership trying to extend their power and influence. It has nothing to do with the vast majority of normal people following the religious practice.

We do not lack the mindset to deal with the problem. Look at the Israelis and GWB. They have the resolve to deal with the challenges of the terrorists. The writer of the article has a twisted mindset that we are losing to the Muslims because they are murdering one another in Baghdad or other cities every day in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has nothing to do with us, the Shiites and Kurds in Iraq are very happy to have our assistance. Otherwise, Saddam would be alive and still ruling them with gas bombings and complete oppression.

The death and murder will continue forever. At some point, all of the police responsibilities in Iraq will be left to their domestic security. That would scare the shit out of me if I were an Iraqi Sunni. Look at all the rapings and middle of the night raids by the Shiite security forces. We are the only ones to stand in the middle between peace and bloodshed. I hope it stays that way for a long time.

Nothing has just begun, nor will it ever end. People kill each other in every culture. I love to read Maurice when he talks about the 1 or 2 chromosomes that separate us from the primates. We expect too much from ourselves. However, I believe our culture has the mindset to enforce security and free market access. The problem is shutting it down. We are spending hundreds of billions of dollars on the war.

WE have kicked as much ass as is humanly possible right now, while respecting everyone's interests in the area. I don't see the Pakistanis, Saudis, Egyptians, or anyone else too disturbed by the new balance of power.

I totally disagree with your point of view that the USA is specifically soft and weak and apologetic. The USA and Britain have historically been the only 2 countries to fight against the terrorists. Why doesn't Canada help more. They are busy shipping too much oil at the higher market prices created by the terrorists. They love to watch the terrorists poke fun at America.

I know that we see the seriousness of Islamic intolerance on a very serious level. But let's not start taking ourselves too literally. That would make us the same mindless zombies that we are trying to stop.

Keith, as long as the Message of Islam is available, taught and believed in, then Civilized Society will have a problem.

Chas.. so long as we choose this kind of option, it will feed the cause of Jihad. Thoughts like your's will have the same effect upon the moderate and peaceful muslim population, radicalizing them in the name of "do unto them before they do unto us", as militant Jihadist ramblings have upon you.

There is another way.. That way is to fuel the theological and ideological civil war of beliefs within the Muslim world.

And we're seeing this as militant muslims are focusing their attacks upon fellow muslims more than "western infidels".

We're forcing the muslim world to deal with the militant fanatics in their midst. And hopefully, if properly mobilized and equipped to defend themselves, the Jihadist elements will become increasingly marginalized.

Our mindset should be that NO RELIGIOUS FACTION should be tolerated that promotes and perpetrates violence in order to further its presence.

All spiritual battles should be peaceful.. a battle of hearts and minds, and not fists and bombs.
