Iraqi civilian deaths are estimated at more than 54,000 and could be much higher; some unofficial estimates range into the hundreds of thousands. The U.N. Assistance Mission for Iraq reports more than 34,000 deaths in 2006 alone.

Among those polled for the AP survey, however, the median estimate of Iraqi deaths was 9,890. The median is the point at which half the estimates were higher and half lower.

It doesn't surprise me. Americans don't want to know about this war. Many got duped into believing it was the right thing to do. Now, the news media won't let them forget the number of Americans who have been killed over this stupidity and so the Bush administration has been unable to do its usual spinning by turning the number of dead Americans into some lesser number. However, the administration has been successful at confusing the issue of how many Iraqis have been killed. Everytime someone comes up with a number they claim its something else and then they throw out a much smaller number. It doesn't help that most Americans don't care how many Iraqis get killed.....they see every Iraqi as a potential insurgent or jiddahist.

But I bet they know every detail of the Anna Nicole soap opera...

If they don't stop with the Anna Nicole crap, I am going stop watching the tube completely. I can't help thinking American society is sliding down to the lowest possible denominator. This obsession with celebrities is one vivid example of our decline.
