But it's THEIR mess. And it's ISRAEL'S mess. It doesn't pose an existential threat to us and never could. The best they can do is take a bite out of us and our interests now and then. We'd be wiser to spend more shoring up our borders and other defenses and spending the Iraqi money trying to cure cancer or some other thing that kills more Americans each year than the 3000 or so lost on 9/11.
