"It's amazing how much the left WANTS Iraq to be another Vietnam" Actually, darlin', we were against it before the war, cuz we knew it was gonna be another Nam. Some of us even knew the government would lie about Iraq just as they did about the Tonkin Gulf. Nam cost us 50K dead, ? wounded, and ??psychologically scarred for life, cost the Vietnamese several million people, caused massive environmental damage, and is still tearing the country apart. No, we don't want another Nam. Except maybe the part where Vt. Senator Aiken said, "Let's just declare victory and go home." Here's a guy who knew ahead of time. See if you can get it to turn out better for the US than I've been able to do. idleworm.com

It's amazing how much the left WANTS Iraq to be another Vietnam so they can rack up another loss. They act like losing Vietnam was some act of triumph on their part. A million Vietnamese became boat people and heaven knows how many died, but the Left doesn't give a damn or have a single second thought about their "triumph". that is one of the most ignorant posts I have ever read on SI. Congrats.

As Vietnam veteran, with many friends on the "left" back then, I never experienced that point of view - anywhere. They were passionate in their beliefs which I respected and eventually came to agree with. Iraq is another Vietnam - trust me. And, the more strong voices that come out against it, the better. These folks are trying to end a war that is resulting in thousands of people killed and wounded...on all sides - it is inconcievable to claim a victory. Altair19
