I subscribed to Roger Conrad's Utility Forecaster for ideas I could use for my retired mom's investments. But, I make more with my own ideas, i.e. tanker stocks like FRO & GMR. I'm much too much a speculator to find anything useful for myself. I do find I get a sense of that segment of the market that I otherwise would not be exposed to. My impression is he writes for the widows and orphans crowd, i.e. my mom. I thought I was supposed to get some kind of website registration and email alerts besides the weekly free email he sends out. As for the uranium spam his taut sheet group spews out, if you think that's bad then try being on a mailing list from the sleazebags at Agora.
