Yes, that's how he comes across now.

Although I worried that he'd get elected, I admired his independence and his principled courage. Those qualities probably weren't enough to get him the nomination of a party that seems to value the ability to separate from the herd about as much as the sight of a naked man in the choir. Even so, the end result of the pandering of the "new" John McCain may ultimately be his demise as a national political figure.

And for those of us who admired him for his strengths, it's tragic to watch him shrink. Ed
