Iran has a ways to go to get called democratic but if you remove the limitations that nadine points out, they are on their way. Structurally they are set up for a future shot at an islamic democracy but in not in place by any means. Chinese working it all thru one party does not mean democracy impossible there either. You can end up with primaries and sub-primaries and have an asian form of democracy. I am not so sure that what we have here is democracy as intended either. If we did Gore would have been president in 2000. Anyone want to play with what would have happened given world events if that had been the outcome. It could be like a parlor game.
PS Why the f did chrissy poo attack you? Uncalled for-- and you know me i never attack anyone. But its good to share a common adversary with you for a change/

No, as I understand it, the council of Guardians, the real keepers of power, are not elected at all. New members are chosen by existing members, not by vote.
