I hope I'm not interjecting here where I don't belong, or aren't welcome. I've mostly lurked on this thread reading most of what is said here (from all sides), although I do admit to looking at this from the perspective of a Conservative Christian American.

Anyway, you said in reference to trying to understand other points-of-view:

"If a person made all kinds of proclamations about the Christian Community in America based on the data they collected about America having higher statistics than almost any country in the world for rapes, assaults, murder, robbery, sexual perversion ."

I would respond to this hypothetical person by asking whether they felt these heinous acts (rapes, assaults, murder, robbery, sexual perversion) were done in the name of the Christian religion, or in stark contrast to what Christ taught his followers?

In the same way, I ask if strapping a bomb on and blowing up a group of people on a bus while my "leader" (Bin Laden, or some other Islamic extremist who has sponsored the act) is saying how great it is that this person has martyred themselves in the name of Islam. I've never heard of someone yelling, "Jesus is Lord" while shooting someone, yet we hear story after story of people shouting "Allah du Ahkbar" while committing some equally horrible act.

On a different subject (but sort of related)...a posting a few messages back made me think. The general question was, "what would you do about the Islamic extremists that threaten the free world". That brought to mind the time a couple of decades ago when abortion clinics were being bombed by Christian extremists in the U.S. Why did these types of terrorist actions stop? I'm sure there are several factors that caused it, but among the most important were (I believe) a combination of stringent law enforcement activities involving ALL levels of law enforcement (the FBI, local law enforcement, etc.) and public opinion turning against the extremists. Many of these (so called, Christian) extremists were turned-in to law enforcement by members of their own congregation before they could carry out the attack, while in the process of preparing for it.

So what I would like to see (and I realize, this is only on a National scale, and I also realize some of this is already happening)...I would like to see Law Enforcement prosecuting terrorist activities to the full extent of the law. And I would like to see it taught in the mosques and madrassas that if you know of any of this sort of activity being planned or perpetrated, it is Allah's will (if it indeed, IS) that they should be turned-over to Law Enforcement authorities, and there is no place in paradise (if indeed there ISN'T) for those that would perform such acts.

Anyway...that's just my .02.

I must digest your posts before responding -- you raise some cogent points and I owe more than a snap end-of-day reply.
