Contrary to a lot of propaganda, we are not by nature imperialists, and never will be. Perhaps that is the quintessential global problem we have on our hands. There exist no more or less benevolent powers such as England willing to nation-build, then leave when the work is completed.

And it doesn't always work, witness England's many former African colonies which are a mess.

It's a different world, colonialism isn't going to happen. Unless, of course, a Caliphate is established, but I don't want to even consider such a horrible possibility.

The US military isn't equipped to nation-build. That's just a plain fact.

That's absolutely correct. It should be a function of the UN. The US military will remove the dictatorial regimes, and the UN nation building team should come in and build the nation.

There is a serious question in my mind as to what happens to us as a nation if we go that route, as it's clearly one more step towards an empire on the scale of the British Empire and the Roman Empire.

When the successful end of an eventual nation building effort is the complete removal of the nation building team, it's nothing like an empire. In an empire you keep some administrator in place, and usually charge a tax. If you leave, there is nothing like an empire about it.

The failure of Iraq is the failure of the Iraqis.
That is most idiotic statement you ever spewed, and you spewed a lot. It is the failure of your stupid/idiotic president and chief that created that situation. Blame the victim. Ilain, do you blame the woman that has been raped? Like I said before you do not follow Jesus foot steps.

We won the war
What war? another stupid statement. Iraq was starved for 10 years, all your stupid president had to do is walk to Baghdad.
but we need them to win the peace.
The US is cleaning bank in Iraq, how could they win peace. Yet another stupid statement, you are becoming Like Bush, full of stupid statements. Why don't you come out and admit that you and your stupid president screwed up and going to Iraq was not necessary and all this was done to please Israel. For once be honest to yourself.
