Baloney. If anything, Reagan extended the life of a dying corrupt regime by providing a boogieman figure for the Reds to instill fear into their population. The Soviet Union collapsed under the weight its own corruption and economic deformity.

Reagan did not give us a long boom either. He left Bush Sr. and Clinton with huge debts and two recessions, plus the 300 billion dollar S+L debacle bill. Clinton's economic record was much better. It was all paid for plus surpluses for the first time since 1960. Reagan also armed both Iran and Iraq and tried to start a needless war in poor little Nicaragua. One more thing, if JFK hadn't been murdered the Cold War and Vietnam War would have been over long before they actually were. Ditto Bobby Kennedy.
