"Great...another tax increase." A massive tax increase. (And, a sneaky one, at that....) Seems they are relying on the old favorite of politicians who want to sneak tax increases through: BRACKET CREEP and INFLATION. Since medical costs in the US have been rising much faster then the over-all level of consumer inflation for DECADES now... it's a pretty safe bet that (absent something like some of the major structural reforms that we discussed the other night...) they will continue to rise at high rates. This, and the fact that the President's proposal puts a ceiling on the tax-free nature of employer-supplied medical benefits... then doesn't index that for the annual inflation in medical costs --- GUARANTEES that, just a little while down the road, the tax burden for individuals goes way up....
